Unngå rutinemessig CT-undersøkelse av voksne ved lette og minimale hodeskader.

Ved minimale hodeskader (GCS 15 uten tilleggsrisiko) er det ikke indikasjon for CT.

Ved lette hodeskader med lav risiko (GCS 14 eller GCS 15 og mistenkt/bekreftet bevissthetstap og/eller gjentatte brekninger) kan normal S100B-blodprøve tatt < 6 timer etter skaden erstatte CT.

Ved lette hodeskader med middels risiko (GCS 14-15 og alder ≥ 65 år og platehemmende medisiner) er CT indisert, men kan erstattes av innleggelse for observasjon i 12 timer.

Ved høy risiko (posttraumatisk epilepsianfall, fokale nevrologiske utfall, tegn til skallebrudd, shuntbehandlet hydrocephalus eller koagulasjonsforstyrrelse/antikoagulasjonsbehandling) eller moderate hodeskader (GCS 9-13) skal det tas CT.
