Medical Ethics Council and local medical ethics committees
The Medical Ethics Council and the divisional medical ethics committees are the Association`s bodies for dealing with ethical questions. If the Ethics Council or a committee is of the opinion that a doctor is in breech of the NMA Code of Ethics, it can express its disapproval or reprimand the doctor. The Ethics Council may require that the doctor apologises for and/or discontinues the matter for which he or she is reproached, and it may also propose to the Executive Committee that the doctor is excluded from the Association. The Ethics Council is the Association`s highest authority on medical ethics issues.
